“The Authority of the UN is Weakening”: Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Delivers State of the Nation Address

Astana — Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered his State of the Nation Address, titled “Pressing Tasks of Kazakhstan in a New Historical Period,” during a session of the National Quryltai. The President assessed global geopolitical challenges and outlined the strategic vectors for the country’s development, Tiek.kz reports.

In his speech, the President emphasized the historical significance of the new Constitution during the 35th anniversary year of the country’s Independence. According to Tokayev, the Basic Law—adopted in March, enacted on July 1, and heavily supported by the public—has become the bedrock for a radical modernization of the political system and the establishment of new institutions of power. He described the Constitution as a sacred covenant between generations and praised the active participation of citizens in the ongoing historical transformations.

Global Challenges and the Crisis of Trust

The Head of State noted that safeguarding national sovereignty continues to demand heightened attention. To successfully implement the outlined socio-economic objectives, it remains critically important to preserve unity and harmony within society. In an era of escalating global threats, he stated, strict discipline and responsibility must take priority.

The President drew special attention to the deepening crisis of mutual trust among influential global powers and the ongoing devaluation of international law. In his assessment, unprecedented geopolitical clashes and uncontrolled mass migration are creating severe security risks.

“The authority of the United Nations is weakening. The current international situation can be characterized as complex, and its future as highly unpredictable,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev concluded.
