Asian Games: Yasmina Toksanbaeva Stripped of Gold Medal Over Equipment Violation

Astana — Kazakhstani track and field athlete Yasmina Toksanbaeva has been stripped of her gold medal in the marathon race walking event at the Asian Games. The athlete’s victorious result was officially annulled following an inspection of her footwear, Tiek.kz reports, citing Tizgin.kz.

A Post-Race Protest

Yasmina Toksanbaeva crossed the finish line first in the women’s marathon race walking event, seemingly securing the top podium spot. However, immediately after the race concluded, an official protest was lodged regarding the Kazakhstani athlete’s performance.

Based on the appeal, World Athletics initiated a specialized inspection of her gear. Specifically, technical experts examined whether Toksanbaeva’s shoe model was included in the official approved list of footwear permitted for use in professional, high-level competitions.

Gold Medal Awarded to China

Following the thorough review, officials determined that the Kazakhstani athlete’s footwear violated specific clauses of the regulations concerning sports equipment requirements. Consequently, Yasmina Toksanbaeva was officially disqualified, and her finishing time was completely voided.

The Organizing Committee of the Asian Games has since formally ratified the updated competition results. Due to the annulment of Toksanbaeva’s performance, the gold medal for the discipline has been reallocated and awarded to the representative from China.
