Astana — Erlan Koshanov has been officially elected as the Chairman of the newly established Qazaqstan Halyq Kenesi (People’s Council of Kazakhstan). His candidacy secured the backing of the Council members following a secret ballot held during the body’s inaugural session, Tiek.kz reports.
Presidential Nomination and the Voting Process
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev personally nominated Koshanov for the leadership role. This decisive move confirmed prior expert forecasts predicting that a high-profile political figure from outside the original 126-member roster would be appointed to spearhead the new representative body.

In his new capacity, Erlan Koshanov will exercise overall leadership and direct the strategic operations of the Council. According to the official regulations, his direct duties and executive powers include:
