4 Million More Kazakhstanis Gained Access to Gas Over Six Years

Kazakhstan continues its large-scale efforts to expand access to natural gas for the population. Over the past six years, the country’s gasification rate has increased from 51% to 64.2%, Tiek.kz reports.

Pace and Scale of Gasification

During this period, around 4 million people gained access to natural gas. The total number of Kazakhstanis with access to gas increased from 9.1 million to 13.1 million.

• More than 1,000 settlements have been covered.
• 20,000 kilometres of gas distribution networks have been built.

In 2025 alone, natural gas reached the homes of more than 354,000 residents in 94 settlements, with around 2,000 kilometres of networks constructed.

Infrastructure projects are continuing in 2026. A total of 40 projects are currently underway — 7 carried over from previous years and 33 new projects. Once completed, they are expected to provide access to gas for another 36,000 people.

Gasification of Northern Regions: The Ishim–Astana Project

The construction of the Ishim–Astana main gas pipeline is of particular strategic importance for the country. A memorandum on its implementation has already been signed between the Government of Kazakhstan and Gazprom PJSC.

The large-scale project will:

• ensure reliable gas supplies to Astana, Kokshetau and Petropavlovsk;
• diversify natural gas supply routes to the country’s northern regions.

Further expansion of the gas infrastructure will be carried out in accordance with the instructions of the Head of State. By 2035, the share of the population with access to natural gas is planned to reach 80%.
